<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First of all, I'd like to apologize for quoting Eminem in my blog title. Second of all, it's true. I'm back and better than ever! Bakin' and cookin' up a storm. I EVEN MEAL PLANNED TODAY. That's right. Oh, the things a 27 year old single gal gets excited about. That brings me to my next order of business: cranberry pumpkin upside down cake. Is your mind blown? Mine is. Let's get started:</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Melt your butter in a sauce pan over medium/high heat. Combine rum and brown sugar until it's completely combined. It will smell a little like brown butter, which in my opinion, is delicious. Pour over a buttered 9inch buttered pan, you can add parchment paper to cover the bottom of the pan but it's not 100% necessary. </span><br />

What a disgrace! So, as much as I'd like to chat about my culinary adventures, I've got other business to attend to. I am back in Phoenix, because my little sister was diagnosed with Leukemia in July. I'm taking this time to spend with my family and with her. She's doing well, all things considered, but has thrown us all for a serious loop. I will get back to cooking and talking about it in no time, but first I wanted to share a couple of links.<br />
<br />
First is the family blog we've started to keep everyone up to date on Hannah's progress:<br />
www.hannimaltheanimal.com...feel free to take a peek!<br />
<br />
Second is a little Etsy shop I set up for her. Because of her treatment, she's unable to work a part time job, so we decided selling her super cute crafty creations is the perfect solution. All of them are one of a kind and made by her.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq2uXUnKnBVWZItrlQMR5IimxIRnQX5MvaoTf_dxswHcEQ6MXEJxzezWgjY3PsGy_KTB9033DGA1I37tqZJJgjkB-fLFASS_gN4K9frbjsEV0X6kcm4r2asFRrZ3WSIM76LPgl7HMIpPc/s1600/8bd918d311284078954374fe9151596a_7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq2uXUnKnBVWZItrlQMR5IimxIRnQX5MvaoTf_dxswHcEQ6MXEJxzezWgjY3PsGy_KTB9033DGA1I37tqZJJgjkB-fLFASS_gN4K9frbjsEV0X6kcm4r2asFRrZ3WSIM76LPgl7HMIpPc/s400/8bd918d311284078954374fe9151596a_7.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">so head <a href="http://etsy.com/shop/hannahcobley">here</a> to shop! I'll be back sooner than next year to talk about food n stuff. ;) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">xoxo</div>Sarah Elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16431439975817596339noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2180321829314006231.post-27188506305301856782011-06-22T18:26:00.000-07:002011-06-22T18:26:57.498-07:00Jammin!Hey guys, remember me? Yeah, sorry. Moving 2 states away, starting a new job/life really took a toll on my bloggin' life. I'll try to get back to the regular 1-2x a week posts though, pinky swear. SO today, I made blueberry jam! JAM! I found a recipe that doesn't require canning equipment (thank goodness) and so I marched down to my nearest Fred Meyer (a glorified Walmart, don't judge) and found some cute jars to gift out my jammy-jam when it was finished. Anywho, let's get started.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0heQQwqrEQc8NdwiKp_Ad9_gA04TLelqaSZ7k28bK_nLmE__5PcIIISwPuRh4kpWw2V-SDrlHke1Pr6qOz-PxDEJIh-Wqr5THWbneNG8H5UpCtR-mX9QCL5lo55BhzST9zPiJc6p1tW0/s1600/blue1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="289" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0heQQwqrEQc8NdwiKp_Ad9_gA04TLelqaSZ7k28bK_nLmE__5PcIIISwPuRh4kpWw2V-SDrlHke1Pr6qOz-PxDEJIh-Wqr5THWbneNG8H5UpCtR-mX9QCL5lo55BhzST9zPiJc6p1tW0/s320/blue1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">You'll need:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">5 cups blueberries</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1/2 cup sugar</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1 tablespoon lemon juice </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1/4 teaspoon kosher salt</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">(I doubled the recipe, because it ends up only making 3 cups and I wanted to share!)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">SO, dump all your ingredients into a big ol sauce pan.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9j6OHn30omRlsQZETqBLs7bbXjqzM0wtDgU_gGhSqfsacjCFoFa8487JWZ_Y6DKqRsKRKDriUJs6DM9nbR9IjlmqpQ3H2oW544LcvxLr-k1MoHzByf32ln2xGTuIj1kgUC3uo2VULE-M/s1600/blue2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9j6OHn30omRlsQZETqBLs7bbXjqzM0wtDgU_gGhSqfsacjCFoFa8487JWZ_Y6DKqRsKRKDriUJs6DM9nbR9IjlmqpQ3H2oW544LcvxLr-k1MoHzByf32ln2xGTuIj1kgUC3uo2VULE-M/s320/blue2.jpg" width="239" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here comes the fun part. Grab a potato masher and get down n dirty with those blueberries. Mash 'em til their good and...mashed. If you're having an angry or emotional day it's a good reliever. (Trust me, today was one of those days for me...I'm feelin' like a million bucks now!)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUyZnOtI4H01ewfq9Dv7MUJBBbbpf2rEGXqkeieRKn3A2d2-6Hr-Ao-ngOTG3NTU1-EWbFFh-AYymbM03r-0ftTHAs5Cw3MxYnfhWLuTAMNEe0zGQFaE-Qpr53TiUOG0xMcgRjJ_LUWm4/s1600/blue4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUyZnOtI4H01ewfq9Dv7MUJBBbbpf2rEGXqkeieRKn3A2d2-6Hr-Ao-ngOTG3NTU1-EWbFFh-AYymbM03r-0ftTHAs5Cw3MxYnfhWLuTAMNEe0zGQFaE-Qpr53TiUOG0xMcgRjJ_LUWm4/s320/blue4.jpg" width="239" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Let the mixture simmer on medium-high heat for about 25 minutes, or until it thickens enough. It won't get as thick as jam does until it's fully cool though, so don't freak out. ....like I did.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXZJz6oYzVeeQqWhD6UpiioX6XfWp-q1RwFnJXhna6NkStnzCtxVMf5GTrIUfUXXOcaIIrgvGRy4GAkF9SIwSJqQYEDS7tu8Uz0OxNer7xrDWUa3uFZz6ME6_-FeXVmUfM8dyXVgmYlIs/s1600/blue5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="317" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXZJz6oYzVeeQqWhD6UpiioX6XfWp-q1RwFnJXhna6NkStnzCtxVMf5GTrIUfUXXOcaIIrgvGRy4GAkF9SIwSJqQYEDS7tu8Uz0OxNer7xrDWUa3uFZz6ME6_-FeXVmUfM8dyXVgmYlIs/s320/blue5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Transfer your jam into containers when finished and KEEP REFRIGERATED (!!). It's not the kind that can hang out in your cupboard until it's opened because canning equipment wasn't used. It will last a month in the fridge and a year if you freeze it. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQdtsVa8CM827dwKAGTI5tMsPvyXeku4e7vrg3wSIQJiq1dBaTQZ4KFvBY9XJMLn5CijI0QL0lVtWSQgLNp_Gw8SolBVwj8yRhvpe0VEVLenCDCK2Bgbt51U6M_Vm3PjXq9PjYOhcIYsA/s1600/blue6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQdtsVa8CM827dwKAGTI5tMsPvyXeku4e7vrg3wSIQJiq1dBaTQZ4KFvBY9XJMLn5CijI0QL0lVtWSQgLNp_Gw8SolBVwj8yRhvpe0VEVLenCDCK2Bgbt51U6M_Vm3PjXq9PjYOhcIYsA/s320/blue6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And there we have it. Butter up a co-worker and bring some into work, give some to your friends! Or just keep it all to yourself, you know, whatevs. And yes, I used my iPhone for all my pictures cuz I was being lazy, sorry. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">xo.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I'm blogging from the airport! F A N C Y. I'm going to Seattle, yahoo! Last week my mom and sister were in town to pay me a little visit. My mom is like a super-human and makes this homemade bread at least twice a week at home. Its enough dough to make 3 loaves and literally takes under 10 minutes prep time. OH and you don't have to knead it! Lazy bakers unite!<br />
<br />
Here we go:<br />
(coming to us from the website: artisanbreadinfive.com)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="border-collapse: collapse; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><span style="color: black;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">3 cups <b>lukewarm water</b> <i>cold water = longer rising time hot water = KILLING YEAST. so do it right! </i></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="border-collapse: collapse; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><span style="color: black;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">1 1/2 tablespoons <b>granulated yeast</b> </span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="border-collapse: collapse; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><span style="color: black;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">1 1/2 tablespoons <b>kosher salt (or sea salt...mmm!)</b></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="border-collapse: collapse; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><span style="color: black;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">6 1/2 cups (2-pounds) <b>unbleached all-purpose flour</b> </span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="border-collapse: collapse; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><span style="color: black;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmQSK-DS2l9bjSYcGuvhWZKJY8v8U-A86cElwKlY36wkklpxNl4fFxeo0PIknKhQhI2QbeB1Ijhk5FKw2QxOMPcXyxYSIHdr0HZ8Hz7tPHhSA7Qm4bzsj1p8cs7eCeqlKDDkpqr6qGndw/s1600/blog1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="257" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmQSK-DS2l9bjSYcGuvhWZKJY8v8U-A86cElwKlY36wkklpxNl4fFxeo0PIknKhQhI2QbeB1Ijhk5FKw2QxOMPcXyxYSIHdr0HZ8Hz7tPHhSA7Qm4bzsj1p8cs7eCeqlKDDkpqr6qGndw/s320/blog1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In your mixer, or in a 5 quart bowl (you dont have to have a Kitchenaid!) dump your water, yeast and salt and mix with a whisk (I really like using whisks, dont you?). </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpfPy2kaCeQ5p7CCF32GKvPphPkJk6nnjW-9dPRtM3QGhoXa9NWsIYS9ZRPZYpR9fVwlwPXVeV5B43K-My8UQl1AAi86X3sv4EFh3H3xUOBPfE7Bh9VI3Li3gdMX_TpB1TLAAgzOiVzkI/s1600/blog2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpfPy2kaCeQ5p7CCF32GKvPphPkJk6nnjW-9dPRtM3QGhoXa9NWsIYS9ZRPZYpR9fVwlwPXVeV5B43K-My8UQl1AAi86X3sv4EFh3H3xUOBPfE7Bh9VI3Li3gdMX_TpB1TLAAgzOiVzkI/s320/blog2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">(oooh, action shot!) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Now, combine all your flour into mixture. Guess what? You dont have to sift it! You know how I feel about sifting.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1YjNxNi2BQC-Etnvmoy3L_JvPTrOhjJpg9rkWwFwfRmfZlFBrdD0N9oykyfR08p2Agmnid8CwbiqTrQ2q1Du68NJpy5qQ9_cqy2nWSY853y4lWHKGYVJkI1GORRiRGpzjxfCNWXAYNvs/s1600/blog4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1YjNxNi2BQC-Etnvmoy3L_JvPTrOhjJpg9rkWwFwfRmfZlFBrdD0N9oykyfR08p2Agmnid8CwbiqTrQ2q1Du68NJpy5qQ9_cqy2nWSY853y4lWHKGYVJkI1GORRiRGpzjxfCNWXAYNvs/s320/blog4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It's going to be a wet dough, especially in comparison to other doughs. And that's ok! It will need to rise for about 2 hours. We placed the bowl on my stove so that it was a little warmer than room temperature. I have a gas stove so it's always a little warm. Cover your bowl lightly with tin foil.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgljE5PalcLoOLS0I_yRN8Apgky9MHv86lWrF8B80i-uN0uIshMpNkBHmVkdQWladauZKO4nv04H9LDPLGNbAMsNzlR83ZRFlUlAhCgZ_xp6vo-85SsB6Wrm5geEm0phPDtXnLkzGp7_4/s1600/blog5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgljE5PalcLoOLS0I_yRN8Apgky9MHv86lWrF8B80i-uN0uIshMpNkBHmVkdQWladauZKO4nv04H9LDPLGNbAMsNzlR83ZRFlUlAhCgZ_xp6vo-85SsB6Wrm5geEm0phPDtXnLkzGp7_4/s320/blog5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">When it's done rising, divide dough into two or three pieces, depending on how big you'd like your bread to be. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Cover a wood cutting board with flour and work with the dough to get it into the shape you'd like. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Bqz8oXKuzNWS5zX5isBawYdv99d7wM3ZQOb5rUVc4XahM7Er7RcX5Fnq3kkjQ_iPs-4-lvNpWUxO6O5LTwYW8mcngVC6I6IZpT6CWLs2DMZlY6L8IGqyxJzVLG9aX_UEDsX-TgQBWjg/s1600/blog7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Bqz8oXKuzNWS5zX5isBawYdv99d7wM3ZQOb5rUVc4XahM7Er7RcX5Fnq3kkjQ_iPs-4-lvNpWUxO6O5LTwYW8mcngVC6I6IZpT6CWLs2DMZlY6L8IGqyxJzVLG9aX_UEDsX-TgQBWjg/s320/blog7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It gets a little messy in there! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">OH, PS...if you want to let the dough chill before using, that's fine. Put it in the fridge over night but you CAN use it after the 2 hour rise. We did both, and I even put thyme in my second batch...mmm!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Let the dough rest for about an hour. If you don't, you won't get those delicious holes in the bread and it will be a bit dense. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggqmOdMTwdU0ipX9aGdZFg3OjEc-wloJpfXXv9zOZd4Dp5LOZiLA1EX3MyBp3PjyCA9n8THtEIQ60EkRlnrpGlXrW6jkXY2yMm9J3r82-InPi6b0-HxH2yubyfilNdBIZwN9zTvqZUy30/s1600/blog8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="186" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggqmOdMTwdU0ipX9aGdZFg3OjEc-wloJpfXXv9zOZd4Dp5LOZiLA1EX3MyBp3PjyCA9n8THtEIQ60EkRlnrpGlXrW6jkXY2yMm9J3r82-InPi6b0-HxH2yubyfilNdBIZwN9zTvqZUy30/s320/blog8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Cut at least 3 1/4" slits at the top of the bread. This will help the baking process and make it prettier! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Pre-heat your oven to 450 and use a baking stone if you have one. If not, use a shallow baking pan and cover the loaf slightly with foil. But don't use glass, ok? ok. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Bake for 30-35 minutes until a gorgeous golden color. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY7gJl7AjwoUo5QW2lzesh2jipkePXqcsfiBKY0ca_UCEakNyQ7y0lzxhc4L70dYsnDsacivVOyiHRhF9RsZo2OpQZCoWzTNVpbPYGve78Pwr9idRDlYvPc_EHzRpF44QySkcmcmbCTrg/s1600/blog9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY7gJl7AjwoUo5QW2lzesh2jipkePXqcsfiBKY0ca_UCEakNyQ7y0lzxhc4L70dYsnDsacivVOyiHRhF9RsZo2OpQZCoWzTNVpbPYGve78Pwr9idRDlYvPc_EHzRpF44QySkcmcmbCTrg/s320/blog9.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It sounds like a ton of steps, but its actually really easy. And so good! You'll have fresh bread for a FRACTION of the cost. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="border-collapse: collapse; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><span style="color: black;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />

While I made an array of yummy treats including an apple pie and roasted garlic, the most delicious of the bunch was a recipe I snagged from Miss James over at <a href="http://www.bleubirdblog.com/">Bleubird Vintage</a>. It's called <a href="http://bleubirdvintage.typepad.com/blog/2010/11/i-cooked-last-night.html">estofado</a>. It's basically Spanish stew, and my my was it tasty. It holds up super well for lunch the next day too. I won't bore all of you with re-posting the ingredients and step-by-step since it's already been done over at Bleubird, but I will show you some of my crazy carrots and potatoes.<br />
<br />
One of the things in the Farm Box was heirloom carrots. Some were yellow, some orange, and my favorite, some purple.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-YJl6m79rTNkODbywFm5JHuv422BLb3rsRGO9yHjjG3J8AJ7BxztdNJkx_0MIpgtP5QopZlRCryAhVPzNGhvdyNewfeIoFTeuNnQMKwtFXgg2Edpz7VyR0_9_92C9utDXFIoXtUqVP0s/s1600/DSC_0539.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-YJl6m79rTNkODbywFm5JHuv422BLb3rsRGO9yHjjG3J8AJ7BxztdNJkx_0MIpgtP5QopZlRCryAhVPzNGhvdyNewfeIoFTeuNnQMKwtFXgg2Edpz7VyR0_9_92C9utDXFIoXtUqVP0s/s400/DSC_0539.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I thought they'd be purple all the way through, but to my surprise....they looked like this:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbu2_V-NkgTC5iYuBykTagQig_MV4-82dH3T85g3sJnsYlAO1SiYFi-6XRUD0ilKfoxDTdHAzBaE8VyEG5Ha-5BBILYFYC0JZLqbKIb68L4MVih48VtzXmS9KfHn7YLW2lDidJ6FsPQRM/s1600/DSC_0542.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="326" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbu2_V-NkgTC5iYuBykTagQig_MV4-82dH3T85g3sJnsYlAO1SiYFi-6XRUD0ilKfoxDTdHAzBaE8VyEG5Ha-5BBILYFYC0JZLqbKIb68L4MVih48VtzXmS9KfHn7YLW2lDidJ6FsPQRM/s400/DSC_0542.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Pretty gorgeous, right? Lurved the colors. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I also had red and purple potatoes. I figured once peeled and sliced they'd be regular potato color (white-ish?)...but I was surprised again!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih-xzNnGYSU331RjiZZTFlMAFX_6NxVTFg-GMmTfwDlb1XOk2poAZuCOMzYtIPYkPpDNwAE2T0-RUheU5UPyvehVzBcNdmbGpF0uRP5o7duZOiJ8izi61pSFTXW5na4Vi21stGH64l6Fw/s1600/DSC_0548.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih-xzNnGYSU331RjiZZTFlMAFX_6NxVTFg-GMmTfwDlb1XOk2poAZuCOMzYtIPYkPpDNwAE2T0-RUheU5UPyvehVzBcNdmbGpF0uRP5o7duZOiJ8izi61pSFTXW5na4Vi21stGH64l6Fw/s400/DSC_0548.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">They cooked and tasted like normal potatoes and had the consistency of basically a yukon potato. The only problem with them, though is that with this recipe you have to skillet fry your potatoes. The easiest way to tell when they're done is if they're starting to golden up around the edges. Well, purple and magenta potatoes don't do that. They turned out lovely and added some serious color to the dish. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">If you are looking for something packed full of veggies, jump over to that recipe. You won't be disappointed! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Maybe not the MOST precious, but I think they're pretty adorable tea/coffee cookies (with the exception of my unhealthy love for madelines). You know when you're going to a friends for brunch/lunch and you don't want to come empty handed but REALLY don't have to make something? Throwing store-bought cookies onto a platter does not count, my friends. Make these. Really. Do it. Alls you need is puff-pastry and sugar. They're so cute and girly and the perfect thing to make in under 20 minutes.<br />
<br />
You need:<br />
2 sheets puff pastry<br />
1/2 cup sugar<br />
and cinnamon if you'd like (and I like!)<br />
<br />
Thaw 2 sheets of pastry. Cover your cutting board with sugar and cinnamon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFi6IykuUobfO_yZ7E1YCn6iGvecirgxnOya_liYJHN5TUZ6lW8UGGKXdyW0OEqSVKimekP4HtzRRIGOhI_4PoLrk0acabFSNJNHcNxBoyLRX9W8Sl00PMgj1QDmKb2rehCzHCtKT-Okw/s1600/DSC_0107.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="203" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFi6IykuUobfO_yZ7E1YCn6iGvecirgxnOya_liYJHN5TUZ6lW8UGGKXdyW0OEqSVKimekP4HtzRRIGOhI_4PoLrk0acabFSNJNHcNxBoyLRX9W8Sl00PMgj1QDmKb2rehCzHCtKT-Okw/s400/DSC_0107.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Roll out our puff pastry and flip it a few times to get it nice and coated. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Starting on one end, roll the dough inwards toward other side. Do both sides, rolling 1/2" at a time. (does that make sense? i hope so)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ5y8FNVVpphChHqbimrl_aY8Mf9Rv5FA0jNIJzdgy_7pYwuySuxagESUhb-koKx4oayn-B-C4j67mTYS6SRTNBF-AQqdIaZWzbyNtUkcAi8vkhvjh6ddha4PPKqmwBLEJAqVnBOYuvc4/s1600/DSC_0108.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="193" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ5y8FNVVpphChHqbimrl_aY8Mf9Rv5FA0jNIJzdgy_7pYwuySuxagESUhb-koKx4oayn-B-C4j67mTYS6SRTNBF-AQqdIaZWzbyNtUkcAi8vkhvjh6ddha4PPKqmwBLEJAqVnBOYuvc4/s400/DSC_0108.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Keep on' rollin until the two sides are touching and look kinda like a pinwheel. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBNkDO1rrlSIAaBYtN4_GLWQn43Ggf2wQ9EAVTloDb7eCP0I9zL9lQWJovOWruPObeNeRdvzDje7Gn8ZVDzjoLvg2yzLDvBbOUT0XOWW7qh1Oo_nE58SSa2Ewge2mj3odoaO_C8_8sG5A/s1600/DSC_0109.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBNkDO1rrlSIAaBYtN4_GLWQn43Ggf2wQ9EAVTloDb7eCP0I9zL9lQWJovOWruPObeNeRdvzDje7Gn8ZVDzjoLvg2yzLDvBbOUT0XOWW7qh1Oo_nE58SSa2Ewge2mj3odoaO_C8_8sG5A/s400/DSC_0109.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Using a very sharp knife (and I mean very, people! otherwise they'll kinda fall apart). Cut roll crosswise into 1/4" to 1/2" slices. Now, don't be discouraged, they look a little sad when they're cut. But they come out super cute. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I effing love garlic. Seriously. If a recipe doesn't ask for garlic I'll put it in there anyway. And onions. I love those too. Basically anything to make me 100% un-kissable. Whateva. Roasting garlic is actually not as simple as throwing cloves in a roasting pan, putting the oven to 400 degrees and leaving it for 45 minutes. No sir. I learned the hard way. If you leave it alone too long, it will burn. If you have the temp up too high, it will cook too fast resulting it to...well...burn. SO this is how I do it: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkb3wFWCRrYo8q56k3-xYxMFZupXCEihvce1XqCgn3vGGNsZXfQm0PX0871owiO6mAB9tdiu47UxfLcIPX5btyo0epj4vX3itpOVcxl4FcryzfDo3YWGxnpJE_Omc4E3d7KQPsVtojUAg/s1600/DSC_0512.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" j6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkb3wFWCRrYo8q56k3-xYxMFZupXCEihvce1XqCgn3vGGNsZXfQm0PX0871owiO6mAB9tdiu47UxfLcIPX5btyo0epj4vX3itpOVcxl4FcryzfDo3YWGxnpJE_Omc4E3d7KQPsVtojUAg/s400/DSC_0512.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Grab 2-3 garlic heads and take out each clove. Cut off either end of clove so garlic is exposed. Now. You can either leave the skins on and then pop the garlic out after its roasted OR peel them. I had always peeled them prior to roasting which is amazingly time consuming. This time I peeled half, and left half the skins on to see what happens. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Leave all cloves whole, unless you get a big fat mama clove like this one, cut it in half. Otherwise it won't roast at the same pace. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Heat your oven to no hotter than 350 degrees. Toss the cloves in olive oil or else they will dry out. Roast them in the oven for about 45 minutes to an hour. REMEMBER to toss the cookie sheet every 15 minutes or so. Unless you like burnt garlic, that is. Garlic should be golden brown in color once it's finished. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">You can serve it on top of your protein at dinner, use in a salad or with other vegetables. OR do what I did, make garlic bread! I used: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I have a feeling I'll be ordering these more often. If I become a member I get a pretty eco-friendly box to store everything in! Weee! I have realized in this process that I'm a lot easier to please than I thought. It's the simple things, really.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And guess the f what?! I'm gonna give some stuff away! I was shopping at Anthropologie not too long ago and was chatting with my friend about how I love all their kitchen gadgets that I've collected while building my little kitchen and there's some things I just can't seem to live without. So, looks like there's a lucky duck that's going to get three of my favorite Anthro kitchen tools! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

They're so stinkin cute, and you can even hang them from a cabinet knob to show 'em off. </div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">55 minute timer with a magnet. I keep mine on my fridge so it's impossible to lose. Here's the recipe for the vanilla bean fondue that I continue to dream about ever since eating it. Don't stop reading this JUST because you don't have a fondue pot. You could use your stove top! I am the queen of improvising/not doing things by the recipe....so live a little! Read on: <br />
<br />
You'll need: <br />
<br />
8oz Mascarpone<br />
<br />
<br />
1/2 cup heavy cream<br />
<br />
1/3 cup maple syrup<br />
<br />
2 teaspoons cornstarch<br />
<br />
vanilla bean or extract.<br />
<br />
dash of cinnamon. <br />
<br />
In a fondue pot (or any other heating apparatus!) heat heavy whipping cream. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimo38UxF0mznQsPH2a1iddNVPVIHaeXzRTbI_Iit-S8Mb220yqHI7S4O6HgKS5NO7jm-mwCFB02mRJPdfiiCENUN9NOl24P8TvpQKYeXVUx2Dfxy9_EZJEvBArX80Bp2wrEeLGgHia6iw/s1600/DSC_0287.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" j6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimo38UxF0mznQsPH2a1iddNVPVIHaeXzRTbI_Iit-S8Mb220yqHI7S4O6HgKS5NO7jm-mwCFB02mRJPdfiiCENUN9NOl24P8TvpQKYeXVUx2Dfxy9_EZJEvBArX80Bp2wrEeLGgHia6iw/s400/DSC_0287.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Once it bubbles just a little teeny tiny bit. Add the marscapone. (FUN FACT: Can't find marscapone? That's ok! Use 8oz cream cheese!). Once cheese is melted, it should look similar to this: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

LOOK AT ME! Bloggin' 2 nights in a row! TWO! You know you're ever so proud of me. So last week Lauren and I (she's no stranger to this blog...we're basically the same person...she works in fashion and shares the same undying/fat kid love for food that I have) cooked up a storm. With how amazingly busy I've been it's hard for me to get quality time in with my friends but when I do we go hard. And by go hard I mean we seriously cook. <br />
<br />
We made vanilla bean fondue for dessert, and to not overwhelm you little kitties, I have decided to break it up into two posts. I am going ass-backwards right now and am posting the dipping food prior to the fondue recipe (mostly because I still have to get the recipe of the fondue from Lauren...stop judging). ANYWAY. <br />
<br />
We got some gorgeous organic strawberries and peaches:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmFnYce2UEWmkpTGHfgskURDbFRpYSFtS25UwY7YvldwdjAfpkKVjCCQwMAsk6gf5-YGNB1nyVaUOoMb-tPYkaMEVQqe7DhQntVMS_iFSxjBqi6HM2JYMhgfOgfr5xA8uxpROL9gHrGUM/s1600/DSC_0270.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" j6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmFnYce2UEWmkpTGHfgskURDbFRpYSFtS25UwY7YvldwdjAfpkKVjCCQwMAsk6gf5-YGNB1nyVaUOoMb-tPYkaMEVQqe7DhQntVMS_iFSxjBqi6HM2JYMhgfOgfr5xA8uxpROL9gHrGUM/s400/DSC_0270.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And we made some cute little no-fry *not no-bake like it said earlier...thanks for pointing it out, Steff!** churros. These are the easiest things in the world to make. Unless you wanna get fancy and make your own dough which we SO didn't do. We're not THAT ambitious. Get yourself a sheet or 2 of puff pastry, although you'll probably just need one. It tends to go a long way. Roll it out on a cutting board and cover it in an unhealthy amount of cinnamon and sugar. (Am I the only one that has to look up the spelling of cinnamon EVERY TIME I spell it? Yes? Ok :/) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Hi. I realize I've (yet again) neglected my little internet corner recently. What? Sundance, The Grammys, my days off are few and far between currently so you can't get mad at me, k? K! I mean, how could you get mad at this face? I'm sure a lot of people, because it's probably the worst picture I will ever post of myself on the world wide web. HOWEVER. Don't I look tan? Because I was. My boss forced me (read: asked me if I wanted to and I said yes) to get a spray tan at one of the booths at the Grammys. I would also like to point out my feather extension. I know what you're thinking. I'm turning into some sorta hippie. While that might be true, I'm still shaving my legs. I just realized I have to take it out on Saturday because I'm getting my hair done and I am VERY upset. But not upset as everyones eyes would be if they had to see me one more week with unkept locks. But I digress..<br />
<br />
Saturday morning Lauren and I ventured to the Silverlake Farmers Market. It was GORG outside. I even wore shorts. SHORTS! More so because I wanted to show off my sweet tan. It's gone now, in case any of you were wondering. <br />
<br />
I picked out some fruits and veggies. Even some goat cheese and some of the prettiest bread I've ever laid my baby blues on. You know the kinda bread that looks fake? Yeah, that kind. But, my friends, it was not fake. It was like carb-heaven. <br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A few months ago I spent the afternoon at my friend Dotty's house. Aside from us drooling over vintage Gucci bags on her laptop, she was a baking machine. Making, what I thought at the time, was home-made chocolate chip cookies. Of course, that's delicious and I am more than willing to eat the entire batch, she had browned the butter prior to putting it in the dough. UM. It makes a huge difference. Allow me to quickly plug her blog <a href="http://www.mymommybites.blogspot.com/">here</a>, she's hilarious, and I want to be just like her when I finally pop out a little kiddie of my own. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here's how you make 'em: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">3/4 cups butter </div><br />
<br />
3/4 cup packed brown sugar <br />
<br />
1/2 cup granulated sugar <br />
<br />
2 large eggs <br />
<br />
1 tbsp vanilla <br />
<br />
2 cups all-purpose flour <br />
<br />
1/2 tsp baking soda <br />
<br />
1/2 tsp salt <br />
<br />
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips <br />
<br />
<br />
Over medium heat, melt your butter. After completely melted, continue to swirl (I don't really know what that means) the pot until your butter is browned. NOW, be very careful, it's quite easy to burn butter. The time frame is kind of small. I ALMOST burnt mine, luckily I was paying attention for once in my life. <br />
<br />
It should be amber in color and smell a little nutty. (that's what she said. no? ok.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0sNV2UVhwf40hp8qv5azgdLaV_wmhfs8fhO8Awa6geAl6IBgaE-S5BWdrZndFn8MZvZ4_If8OwZZvbGJB1iQ8Obdu5k2OfiXSPvRLaVSHQ0Wu9exMda8_xe6tO15kiXoPxJwO8yPLATU/s1600/DSC_0247.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0sNV2UVhwf40hp8qv5azgdLaV_wmhfs8fhO8Awa6geAl6IBgaE-S5BWdrZndFn8MZvZ4_If8OwZZvbGJB1iQ8Obdu5k2OfiXSPvRLaVSHQ0Wu9exMda8_xe6tO15kiXoPxJwO8yPLATU/s400/DSC_0247.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">See? Gorg. While your butter is browning, combine your sugars in a large mixing bowl. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Add your eggs, flour, baking soda and salt. I think they're silly. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">OH! Don't forget the vanilla! You can put that in whenevs too. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Pre-heat the oven to 350. While your oven is pre-heating take the dough out of the fridge and get it close to room temp. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Should make about 3 dozen. Now, I like to make giant cookies so mine made closer to 2 dozen. And guess what? I forgot to take a picture of them when they were finished. Oopsy. I would do it now but I took them to work yetsterday and they're all gone. I may or may not have had like 5. Stop judging. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Before I stop talking everyone's ear off, I have a question. Does anyone have any feature suggestions? I figure I should do something other than talk about my shoes and my recipes. Maybe restaurant reviews because I go to dinner all the time? Maybe guest posts? All suggestions are welcome! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I marched my happy ass straight to the grocery store and was hungry when I shopped. Well done, Sarah. I basically bought the entire produce section at Ralphs. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I came home from work tonight and threw a bunch together and roasted. Not much of a recipe but my my, so good. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Chicken Soup For The Children's/Mother's/Father's etc etc Soul... What was in them anyway? Short stories? Poetry? I feel like my mom had one or two (is it true, Mom? Did you?). And the title of this post does actually tie into my recipe because....wait for it..... I made soup! From scratch, obviously. It's super easy and makes plenty. <br />
<br />
Here's what you need: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz2cmOiR5mrdcLX8-Bd3NlG5lusTL9LXQvjvufDioz2H27Dbmwx_yN1c3IROIYeehincSHgFfpBKHQwzop79G_Peyftp86Q42dG9t2tTInt2oeY7WxTodPV3qtH9HzYEqeYZEwKD-5gsY/s1600/DSC_0234.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz2cmOiR5mrdcLX8-Bd3NlG5lusTL9LXQvjvufDioz2H27Dbmwx_yN1c3IROIYeehincSHgFfpBKHQwzop79G_Peyftp86Q42dG9t2tTInt2oeY7WxTodPV3qtH9HzYEqeYZEwKD-5gsY/s400/DSC_0234.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKUATXuC2WZR8cwKSW8V0n-dz2ha1M8n2d3I4mvlJeoo337YD0pFB9JNnUwhA9IyUhHCwHlB4m_82EFe-THLqZUeryczS8yyeYPB-hRoE2J7Akfzsqnq0Jkh21kkxw7fMKfrimuCIknYo/s1600/DSC_0235.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKUATXuC2WZR8cwKSW8V0n-dz2ha1M8n2d3I4mvlJeoo337YD0pFB9JNnUwhA9IyUhHCwHlB4m_82EFe-THLqZUeryczS8yyeYPB-hRoE2J7Akfzsqnq0Jkh21kkxw7fMKfrimuCIknYo/s400/DSC_0235.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">You will need: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">1/2 cup uncooked wild rice </div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">1/2 cup uncooked regular long-grain white rice </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">1 tablespoon vegetable oil </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">5 1/4 cups Swanson® Chicken Broth </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">2 teaspoons dried thyme leaves, crushed </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">2 stalks celery, coarsely chopped (about 1 cup) </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">2 medium carrots, chopped</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">1 medium onion, chopped (about 1/2 cup) </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">1 pounds skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut into cubes </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Oh! And a slow cooker! </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">So, turn your slow cooker up to high and pour in your vegetable oil. Dump your rice and let it simmer for 15 minutes. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">After it's simmered for a hot minute, throw in your chicken stock. After that, combine all the vegetables and chicken. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Anyway..... let it simmer for about 7 hours on low or 4 on high. If any of you follow me on <a href="http://twitter.com/sarahmahaira">twitter</a>, you know I started this super late and set my alarm for 2 am to turn it off. I wouldn't suggest doing that. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

<br />
Happy New Year, loves! In the No Thank You Bite spirit, some of my nearest and dearest decided we would cook our way into the new year. What was on the menu, you ask? We went with small bites, of course, and decided that everyone can make their favorite thing. I, of course, went with garlic roasted brussels with bacon. YUM. Gnochi. squash, roasted carrots, caprese and other treats made their way to the table as well. While I didn't take any pictures (I was far too busy with my wine) of the food, I did manage to sneak in one or two of some of my favorite people in the universe.<br />
<br />
While 2010 handed me more than it's fair share of lemons, let's try to focus on some highlights.<br />
<br />
<ul><li>I managed to land myself a job I never thought I was qualified enough for. </li>
<li>I spent more time with friends than I have in a long time. I tend to hermit myself, and I will hermit no more!</li>
<li>I learned how to make <a href="http://nothankyoubite.blogspot.com/2010/10/sushi-image-heavy-obvi.html">SUSHI</a></li>
<li>I got a mother f-in <a href="http://nothankyoubite.blogspot.com/2010/09/oh-yeah.html">Kitchenaid</a></li>
<li>I live alone and love it.</li>
<li>I started this <a href="http://nothankyoubite.blogspot.com/2010/01/no-thank-you-bite.html">blog</a></li>
</ul>So all positives aside, suck it 2010, here's to an even better year. Cheers!<br />

HOWEVER, I cannot take credit for this post. Last summer, my mom and sister went to New Orleans for a mission trip. My mom fell in the Mississippi River and my little sister ate her body weight in craw fish. Oh, and they helped restore houses for Katrina victims. Anywho, my mom picked up Cafe Du Monde Beignet mix to make back when she got home because they are just so darn good. Christmas morning my mom whipped out her wok (I'm telling you, screw frying pans for frying) and her rolling pin and got down and dirty with some beignets. I helped...and by helped I mean took pictures and ate them. <br />
<br />
So here we go:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOkCp1Dr7dAzAnb5e7M0krbFQoprkm0t2mi8f1Ak71NmCpnq2Hm_o2LwcHG68tWDB12qa0Vr9BcYzK7QphSVneoVca_riEpBXicnslOJIwdeBuGU8O19kVVAaZKSZTwv4pyWrfjhHChHc/s1600/DSC_0209.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOkCp1Dr7dAzAnb5e7M0krbFQoprkm0t2mi8f1Ak71NmCpnq2Hm_o2LwcHG68tWDB12qa0Vr9BcYzK7QphSVneoVca_riEpBXicnslOJIwdeBuGU8O19kVVAaZKSZTwv4pyWrfjhHChHc/s320/DSC_0209.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><br />
You'll need a box of beignet mix found <a href="http://www.cafedumonde.com/beignetdemo.html">here</a> and some water. UM how easy is that?<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkbnJAcW8o7_v-o5LxCLGBrtyUtMvVQKpYLKFaJ-5bixGDvZmO2u5tNddREz9yeSnx3A5427lEYm0I5D4VRXgq1avhQi-fqJKkTvF3eJqx4xLG5DpczV5AzFCa-ICgPC76oT8tFboDF4M/s1600/DSC_0207.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkbnJAcW8o7_v-o5LxCLGBrtyUtMvVQKpYLKFaJ-5bixGDvZmO2u5tNddREz9yeSnx3A5427lEYm0I5D4VRXgq1avhQi-fqJKkTvF3eJqx4xLG5DpczV5AzFCa-ICgPC76oT8tFboDF4M/s320/DSC_0207.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Then you roll it out so it's reeeeeal skinny. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7kDwsAKf4P4NhKLo9lWKl-VjJ7ZEx8BUzY_2TbFqibZf12yDEChTgc2mdjZ03Z5uvONsdDH-uzwtNwwmOHKzmymOkkB25Djorr6Oz649X_jv33yiC5vu0GUdV4TIEdlBnfs053FdIEdg/s1600/DSC_0210.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7kDwsAKf4P4NhKLo9lWKl-VjJ7ZEx8BUzY_2TbFqibZf12yDEChTgc2mdjZ03Z5uvONsdDH-uzwtNwwmOHKzmymOkkB25Djorr6Oz649X_jv33yiC5vu0GUdV4TIEdlBnfs053FdIEdg/s320/DSC_0210.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC_8VVN3PYQTp1_i_nVke1HcKMOOihsGdB4M2upCmiYL58Vi7gWhSDQUyj2Io9V1ElLgkTPIvnm0MVm7K1WIAOGvp2hx8JALzTP-k6KRW-NGQiaYMdZFWUf4Wbe9qCzKwQ1TarfzXILus/s1600/DSC_0211.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC_8VVN3PYQTp1_i_nVke1HcKMOOihsGdB4M2upCmiYL58Vi7gWhSDQUyj2Io9V1ElLgkTPIvnm0MVm7K1WIAOGvp2hx8JALzTP-k6KRW-NGQiaYMdZFWUf4Wbe9qCzKwQ1TarfzXILus/s320/DSC_0211.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Then you wok 'em until they're pretty and golden. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrpHvz77-EyOYCqTW1n8RuJOjLENGX7n4acII8iA8nVLPutJ-g5zt_livgQ9ACTD_1T8RqfpIA9HxcNeWKnNq8mZcFB9K4GmSf5m6wf7Sfxu6WbnMkjImOtgR2-c87vNFfwR3wQ-GHpAo/s1600/DSC_0213.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrpHvz77-EyOYCqTW1n8RuJOjLENGX7n4acII8iA8nVLPutJ-g5zt_livgQ9ACTD_1T8RqfpIA9HxcNeWKnNq8mZcFB9K4GmSf5m6wf7Sfxu6WbnMkjImOtgR2-c87vNFfwR3wQ-GHpAo/s320/DSC_0213.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Then you roll 'em around in powdered sugar and...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiohwQXD-pcvZzbNCpvc_fgWrB57bBq1VlEhmpEOVHf8pehlYXz5g2RGKBTm6hsYHeRR6Vnj7-iQZZjG_Zyd7Plw_G6_5KEIyKgp7-errh1h_jpExo7ej8oxGge_VyHgKxAON2a4PyJzic/s1600/DSC_0212.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiohwQXD-pcvZzbNCpvc_fgWrB57bBq1VlEhmpEOVHf8pehlYXz5g2RGKBTm6hsYHeRR6Vnj7-iQZZjG_Zyd7Plw_G6_5KEIyKgp7-errh1h_jpExo7ej8oxGge_VyHgKxAON2a4PyJzic/s320/DSC_0212.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Fancy French donuts! Put on a beret and draw yourself a skinny moustache and you'll be Paris-ready in no time. Oui! <br />
<br />
These kind of taste like Indian fry bread, so I decided to put honey all over one before it was attacked by powdered sugar and THAT my friends, was a tasty treat. Unfortunately my bff Emma (she's part human part chocolate lab) was laying at my feet when I did that and I poured honey on her head :/. Sorry, Em! <br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Merry Christmas/Happy New Year and shiz! That's my Mom, isn't she cute? Yes, that picture is from Christmas Eve, clearly, because I'm wearing a union suit and red lipstick. I do realize that my deer-in-the-headlights-scary-face is not the most flattering, but if you don't like it, than you can just bite me. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">xo!</div>Sarah Elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16431439975817596339noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2180321829314006231.post-71012495697260054212010-12-20T13:27:00.000-08:002010-12-20T13:27:39.852-08:00Who Needs Gas? According to Socal Gas Company...I Don't!I tried to find a picture of me looking "angry", but couldn't. Apparently I'm too damn happy! Anywho. I rush out of the office on Friday to catch the gas guy so I could FINALLY cook in my new place. I get to my complex, barrel through the front door and what do I find? A "Sorry We Missed You" notice. UM!!! My appointment wasn't even until <b><i>45</i></b> minutes later! But in an effort to not complain constantly (after all, it IS Christmas!). I looked up some no-cook recipes to get me through the next couple of days so I'm not ordering Chinese and Dominoes. I would like to fit into my New Years dress.<br />
<br />
I would love to not have gas when it's July because these no-cook recipes are delicious when it's roasting out, but seriously? It's POURING out and all I want to do is make soup. <br />
<br />
Which one of these should I make tonight? Any of them? All of them? Does anyone have any suggestions? I am capable of using my toaster and crock pot, and my Kitchenaid but I don't think that will get me anywhere.<br />

Although my kitchen is considerably smaller than my last, I'd like to look on the bright side. The bright side, being the following: <br />
<br />
1. There's a breakfast nook attached to it large enough for a table and four chairs. <br />
2. The CUTEST hutch in said nook to showcase my adorable dishes. <br />
3. My building was built in the twenties, and they decided to keep the original ice box in place for added storage. I mean, how stinkin cute is that? <br />
4. IT'S ALLLLLLL MINE. <br />
<br />
<br />
Let's take a tour! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfN1GMYPxQ2aXcK7aweKVrtT-z4Ii-loMhTj6k-0sOf_cuzD2reQx5oIdUsrEYv9PvGGNH0Y-y1XZq-fCEmJwqJj9jQZVqjGgG9nhrGVERmLtzzublC1ylP-OqZme2vZ_tJIAg2-aTFBA/s1600/DSC_0100.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfN1GMYPxQ2aXcK7aweKVrtT-z4Ii-loMhTj6k-0sOf_cuzD2reQx5oIdUsrEYv9PvGGNH0Y-y1XZq-fCEmJwqJj9jQZVqjGgG9nhrGVERmLtzzublC1ylP-OqZme2vZ_tJIAg2-aTFBA/s320/DSC_0100.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><br />
I had to get a little creative for things like my pot holders and measuring spoons because storage is limited so I thought....why not display them!?<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi83T0IyIAE712FzFWNqBPF2qVkxe9jO-BjHHklo69o4B5tojuEu1LjugOep0TZ7pN4VbdlrN16Kn6FuC8h1iY3Ww6qlHlpPCtYJJFk0KN-Yo6gtn1TDYZ7dnbb2LFO7NxS4wIUIlCyqBM/s1600/DSC_0104.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi83T0IyIAE712FzFWNqBPF2qVkxe9jO-BjHHklo69o4B5tojuEu1LjugOep0TZ7pN4VbdlrN16Kn6FuC8h1iY3Ww6qlHlpPCtYJJFk0KN-Yo6gtn1TDYZ7dnbb2LFO7NxS4wIUIlCyqBM/s320/DSC_0104.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I LOVE my spice jars but never had a fun place to put them in my old kitchen. Now they're out for all the world (or me and my kittens) to see! However, take a little advice from me- if you're planning on transferring your spices out of it's original packaging be sure to label it. I didn't, and sometimes I get to play a little game I like to call "Guess the spice"...it's not as fun as it sounds!<br />
<br />

This is the bottom half of my ice box. The top half isn't as cute and just has pots and pans in it, so let's stick to where the good stuff is! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvNc82k-FBJJXUb-aSIV55cRg3P1U053A1CBqf5Y2rxTyWlRbtdkQym3KjOI6aU6H_QSNycmd_C5pjcA3aSSd5D_IfbWu3ps8NFvfF3KEUjXhM_8qFEvAguIm7XSDNiJRdJfVVbnoh57k/s1600/DSC_0110.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="223" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvNc82k-FBJJXUb-aSIV55cRg3P1U053A1CBqf5Y2rxTyWlRbtdkQym3KjOI6aU6H_QSNycmd_C5pjcA3aSSd5D_IfbWu3ps8NFvfF3KEUjXhM_8qFEvAguIm7XSDNiJRdJfVVbnoh57k/s320/DSC_0110.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
How cute is this mat? Now, I know what you're thinking. Nothing really matches! I know, I like it that way. I tend to like neutral colors for the rest of my house, but since I adore being in the kitchen so much and it's fun for me, I like to surround myself with bright colors and my very favorite patterns. <br />
<br />
<br />

This kind of sold me on the place. My mom has always had her "good china" on a bit of a display in the house and I think it's so sweet and perfect. While I don't have anything fancy yet, I really love my bowls, tea cups and vintage champagne glasses and hate that they're stuck behind cabinet doors most of the time. Now whenever I have girlfriends over for dinner (or let's be honest...for wine) they can take a peek at some of the things I love most. <br />

I said <em>rills. </em>When I was young, I watched Father Of The Bride Part: 2 alllll the time. There's a part in the movie that Steve Martin takes a sleeping pill right before dinner...as he's about to conk out, he asks someone to pass the rills. I seemed to think it was the funniest thing I had ever heard, and would forever call them rills after that. I'm sure the story is really not that thrilling, but I like it. Don't judge me. But enough about me, right? Right. Onwards! <br />

Buttery Herb Dinner <strike>Rolls</strike> Rills:<br />
<em>Recipe from Sunset Magazine </em><br />
<br />
1 cup milk<br />
<br />
<br />
1 tablespoon active dry yeast<br />
<br />
1 teaspoon salt<br />
<br />
1/4 cup sugar<br />
<br />
1/2 cup butter, softened, plus more for sheets<br />
<br />
2 eggs<br />
<br />
3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for kneading and shaping<br />
<br />
<br />
Microwave milk (or in my case, use a sauce pan....I say F microwaves!), until warm (90° to 105°) Put in the bowl of a stand mixer. Stir in yeast, salt, and sugar. Let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL9mWTER4koUZ_OnOj4_-iDX4R_lLXHjRl0sk_latTdcnzsyGaSDmJTycCAqpIx075aGnywUA2XkBVwg3bMxKqRIyFU87e_eHK_NWRfLpRp6dhmphdU-QwNHkzO2k2kM8fYHFGAXQ801A/s1600/025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL9mWTER4koUZ_OnOj4_-iDX4R_lLXHjRl0sk_latTdcnzsyGaSDmJTycCAqpIx075aGnywUA2XkBVwg3bMxKqRIyFU87e_eHK_NWRfLpRp6dhmphdU-QwNHkzO2k2kM8fYHFGAXQ801A/s320/025.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Attach dough hook (I don't have a dough hook, I just had to wing it...and I winged it well! Is that a word? Winged?) and, with mixer on low, stir in butter 1 egg and 3 tablespoons freshly chopped thyme *or whatever herb is your favey! Add flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a stiff dough forms and pulls away from inside of bowl. Cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let sit until doubled in bulk, about 1 1/2 hours. Meanwhile, butter 2 large baking sheets and set aside.<br />
<br />
<br />

Punch down dough and turn it onto a floured surface. Knead a few times, adding more flour if necessary to keep dough from sticking. Um, punching the dough is really fun and a great stress reliever! I highly suggest doing it if you have a particularly long work day.<br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div> Divide dough into 24 pieces. Working with 1 piece at a time (keep other pieces covered), roll into a 10-in. rope. Coil rope into a flat spiral or twist into a pretzel shape, pinching ends in place. (Make sure you really pinch those puppies, they kind of don't like to stay) Put shaped rolls on buttered baking sheets. Cover and let sit until doubled in bulk, about 45 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350°<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I really do. Like, a lot. Maybe too much. It's my go-to vegetable for any side. Roasting them, steaming them, I lurve it all. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>Boiled brussel sprouts with red currant vinaigrette: <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Ingredients</div><br />
<br />
2 lb brussel sprouts<br />
<br />
1/4 cup red currant jelly<br />
<br />
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes<br />
<br />
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard<br />
<br />
1/4 cup olive oil<br />
<br />
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt<br />
<br />
1/8 teaspoon black pepper<br />
<br />
<br />
Bring large sauce pan to a boil and add sprouts, boil until just tender...about 5 minutes. <br />
You <em>could </em>roast them- but I personally love them boiled this way. I got made fun of for boiling instead of roasting them, but that was prior to anyone trying them. TRUST ME. You'll be hogging this dish like a mother f-er. <br />
<br />
Heat the jelly in a small saucepan over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat. Add the red pepper and mustard. Whisking constantly, slowly add the oil. Season with the salt and black pepper. <br />
<br />
- I personally brought the jelly to a slight boil before removing it from heat, mostly because I forgot about it (stop judging, I was also making home-made dinner rolls, an entire roast beef and sour cream mashed potatoes AT THE SAME TIME...but it turned out just fine.)<br />
<br />
Transfer the brussel sprouts to a serving bowl, drizzle with the jelly vinaigrette, and toss. Serve hot or at room temperature.<br />

Fun fact: this recipe actually called for broccoli rabe instead of brussel sprouts, but when I went to Ralphs they didn't have the fancy broccoli so I went with my staple veg. Red currant jelly is kind of amazing and I feel like isn't used often enough. It needs to be brought into high rotation in my kitchen.<br />
<br />
PS: I googled how to spell broccoli at least 5 times because I thought it looked funny spelled that way. Is it just me? Yes? Ok. <br />
<br />
<br />
If you make this dish every night of the week I don't blame you. D-LISH. <br />
<br />
OH: So I realize that this is a cooking blog, HOWEVER, I was thinking of doing a shop my closet. Thoughts? Concerns? Yay? Nay?Sarah Elizabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16431439975817596339noreply@blogger.com4
